In ancient Greek mythology the phoenix was an immortal creature that closely resembled a bird of prey, often depicted as having a crest of feathers on its head and body covered in flames. The flames surrounding the mythological fowl was an indication that it had reached the end of its life. It is said once the flames ceased the only thing left of the bird were merely ashes. Soon, rising up from those ashes, a new phoenix would be born to carry out the legacy of its predecessor.
The art of remodeling in many ways resembles the ritual of the legendary phoenix. The process of tearing down walls and removing structures that once existed is a process that seems like the end of an era in a home, being reduced to ashes. Only from these ashes can something new be built, bringing new life into the home.
